Change of direction

we crossed

the paths

to the hearts

of each other;

I saw your face

in the window,

glancing wide eyed

at the passing stream

like a photo

from my past

come to life

in future lights –

and I crossed

the street,

strolling right into

a lifelong kiss

there’s a back door and a side road

leading from the garden

and out to the world

in a short while

I’ll see your name

written on the milestones

my heart is pounding

frantic, yet humble;

my heart is a boat

containing the supplies

for instant happiness

my family, my dreams

my will to do what’s right,

my hopes, my strengths

my everlasting hope

in grace of God

my heart is a boat

sailing the oceans of life,

bringing me whatever it contains;

my failures, my loss

my tears from lonely nights,

my falls, my darkness

my shameful kneeling

before the throne of God

my heart is a boat

the voyage goes across the seas

towards a distant shore
